Abstract

Attenuation coefficients of X and gamma rays are required for design of wedges and compensators used for radiotherapy, and treatment planning including wedge fields by means of computers for radiotherapy treatment. Attenuation coefficients of Co-60
gamma ray are compared with those cited from references. Attenuation coefficients of 10 MV X-ray emitted from Clinac-18 are obtained from measurements of attenuated doses by Farmer chamber and electrometer. Attenuation coefficients of the X-ray tend to coincide those of 3 MeV photon beam. It may determine that equivalent energy of 10 MV X-ray is 3 MeV. It is practical in radiotherapy to use the data of 3 MeV for 10 MV X-ray.
